If Chueca’s nightlife has become well known all over Europe is, among other things, due to places like Black & White. Its opening party, back in october 1980, is still remembered as one of the most exciting events at a point where you only needed one hand to count the gay bars and clubs in town. Along with places loke Otelo, Lápices o Heidi, Black & White soon became a reference point for anyone looking for a fun spot to hang out where you can also count on top rate service. Also, its quick success helped shape what throughout the 80’s became the heart of the spanish gay scene.
As the neighbourhood was undergoing a “pink fever”, Black & White went on to fulfill its hope of innovating and offering something that no other gay nightclub did. 1983 marked the beggining of its now legendary transvestite and drag shows, which gave the chance to the biggest names in the circuit to share their art with the happy customers, that to do this day keep attending these drag shows with pure passion. Same happens with its different talent shows, which began back in 1984 with contests like the one held to elect the Boy of the Summer ‘84, or the Hoscars Awards gala, the perfect chance to honor the hottest people in the gay scene, from waiters to go-gos o nightlife living icons. Because everyone, including the biggest celebrities out of the gay scene, has visited Black & White at least once.

Another defining moment in Black & White history came about at the beggining of the 90’s. With the desire to shock customers with brand new offerings and projects still intact, the first strippers began to visit the club. Those hot boys out of London and Manchester left everyone breathless with their arousing performances and certainly made history, breaking new grounds for a lot of men that decided to follow in their steps and join the strip art league. Along with Metro Disco (Sepúlveda, 185, Barcelona), Black & White gave its first chance to male striptease, leading the way for a lot of gay clubs that followed the example and began to hire strippers to perform. A lot of the best known professionals in the bussiness right now started performing in Black & White, which means that the excellent reputation of the club has helped them a great deal in their careers.

All the hard work started paying off when Chueca really exploded in 1995. The neighbourhood finally deserved to be officially known as the absolute center of gay culture in Spain, and Black & White was definitely a part of its core. Stablished as the most charismactic club of gay Madrid, its name has become well known abroad, and it is certainly usual to run into guests of all nationalities having a good time with us, anxious to live the whole Black & White experience, from dancing to the best music, sorrounded by the cutest boys in the downstairs dance club (also known as Rainbow) to having a quiet drink in the upstairs lounge area or enjoying a drag perfomance from its stage. A lot of local celebrities come often to have a fun time, and the list of those who have visited Black & White in the past 15 years is endless: Norma Duval, Alaska, Massiel, Paola Santoni, Tamara… They too can’t resist the glamorous and fun atmosphere for which the club is so well known, a style that just get better and better with time.
